Visiting Chateau Angelus is an experience that should be on your list of must do’s when touring Bordeaux. Located in the right bank village of St. Emilion, less than a mile from the famous bell tower from which the estate is named, lies some of the most scenic vineyards on the right bank. These are wines dominated by a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc and yield some of the most balanced, delicious and age worthy wines in the region.
As you will immediately see, Hubert, the seventh generation owner of Angelus, is exceptionally well studied and passionate about the history of the estate and the wines. Just before our tasting, he guided us on a hillside tour, overlooking the vineyards, and proudly shared the long history of the estate.
By the way, it was so refreshing to hear Hubert not shy away from recommending that you enjoy a big wine, such the ’05 now, as long as you treat it properly with many hours of decanting.
