Macari Vineyards, located on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island in Mattituck, is owned and operated by the Macari Family. The business is led by owners Joseph Macari Sr. and his wife, Katherine, and Joseph Macari Jr., who is at the helm of the new winery with his wife, Alexandra. The winery opened Memorial Day weekend, 1998, with wine enthusiasts everywhere having waited nearly three years to sample the newest taste sensation harvested from the delightful corner of Long Island’s wine country, nestled among 500 waterfront acres of land.
In little over quarter of a century the Long Island wine industry has grown from one small vineyard to 3,000 acres of vines and over thirty wineries producing world-class wines. Long Island’s maritime climate, geography and soil characteristics provide ideal conditions for producing wines of exceptional quality. The Long Island wine region encompasses Nassau and Suffolk Counties, with the majority of wineries and vineyards at the East End, on the North and South Forks. It has been said by many that Long Island is one of the country’s most exciting wine producing regions today, with great reviews and high praise found in major food and wine publications nationwide.
