The Wines of Zlatan Otok | CROATIAN WINE REVIEW

Located on some of the most breath-taking and dramatic vineyards in Croatia, if not the entire world, Zlatan Otok vineyards are positioned on the prized southern exposure 35%-45% drastic slopes of Hvar Island. With an altitude level ranging from approximately the sea level to 1,000 meters, there is nothing in the wine world that compares to these vineyards.

Hvar Island is considered to be one of the sunniest places in the entire Mediterranean, receiving on average 2,724 hours of beautiful sunshine per year. Because of the more than ideal climate, this is considered an organic microclimate perfect for vine growing which the Ancient Greeks settled and planted with vines pre-Roman Empire. The greatest benefit of the vineyards overlooking the sea, apart from a beautiful view, is the fact that they do not need any pesticides or herbicides, so vines can be cultivated in a completely natural way.

The predominant variety cultivated is Plavac Mali (50%), while the remaining varieties include Pošip, Bogdanuša and Yellow Muscat.

More than one hundred awards, medals and recognitions have been given to this amazing winery. This is validation of their passion, hard work, and tradition of wine making on this beautiful island.
