I love that Michel Cohen is going to testify before the House Oversight Committee—publicly.
It’s been said before, but Cohen knows just about everything that went on behind the scenes with the Trump Organization. He knows about the hush money, emoluments, conflicts of interest, most likely about the DNC break-in and Russian collusion—all the various criminal laws Trump broke.
And it’s not just Trump that Cohen will talk about. It’s also senior Trump Organization and Trump campaign officials. Now who could that be? Paging Donald Trump, Jr. and Jared Kushner. Maybe even Miss Ivanka.
Republicans lately are complaining that Democrats suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” but they conveniently forget a few things. One, before there was Trump Derangement Syndrome there was Obama Derangement Syndrome. Do you remember the irrational rage, bordering on hysteria, with which Republicans like Mike Pompeo, Rand Paul, Ron Paul, Mitch McConnell, Eric Cantor, and, yes, Donald “Birther” Trump treated him? Remember how now-Vice President Mike Pence quoted a clip from Patton? “We’re going to kick the hell out of him all the time! We’re going to go through him like crap through a goose!” Scott Walker, whom the voters in Wisconsin just fired as their governor, said he didn’t know if Obama was a Christian. The ever-delightful Newt Gingrich wondered, “What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?”
Let’s not forget Rudi Giuliani, now
Trump’s T.V. lawyer. His vile,
paranoid remarks are worth quoting in full. “I do not believe — and I know this
is a horrible thing to say — but I do not believe that the president loves
America. He doesn’t love you. And he doesn’t love me. He wasn’t brought up the
way you were brought up and I was brought up through love of this
That was Obama Derangement Syndrome. These Republicans were collectively called the Party of No, but it was worse, far worse than that. There isn’t even a name for what they were and what they said and did. The closest I can come to calling it is “evil.”
And it wasn’t just famous Republican
politicians, it was the racist psychos on social media, especially Breitbart.
Obama bowed to Muslim world leaders. Obama had a hip-hop barbecue. Obama and
Michelle fist-bumped like thugs. Obama will bring Sharia law to America. Obama
is the antichrist and will set up world government.
All that was Obama Derangement
Syndrome. Now, in Trump, let me be the first to admit that there is a vast,
widespread—and growing—number of Americans who loathe him, who want him gone,
and not just gone, but brought before the Bar of Justice and held to accounts.
Yes, I’m one of them. I admit to being as upset with Trump as the Republicans were with Obama. But there’s one huge difference: everything the Republicans said about Trump was a lie. Everything. Not just the Birther crap, but everything else. On the other hand, everything that we Democrats have said, and are saying, about Trump has been proven to be true, or is about to be shown to be true. I’m not just talking about the personality disorders—the megalomania, the pathological lying, the sociopathic lack of empathy for others, the misogyny, the vulgarity, all of which render him unfit to serve. I’m talking about the illegal, criminal acts that virtually everybody believes him to have committed, and which (of this I’m sure) Mueller and the Southern District of New York (and possibly other jurisprudential entities and courts) are going to prove that he committed.
So here’s the truth: When we
Democrats fiercely complain about Trump, we do so because the man really is a
horror show. When Republicans insulted and smeared Obama, they just made all
that stuff up. There’s a big difference between objecting to a criminal in the
White House, and objecting to one of the most decent men ever to hold the
office of the president, simply because (a) he’s Black and (b) you don’t like
Here’s another thing I admit, happily and freely: I want Trump to suffer, personally. I want him to be humiliated. I want him to be embarrassed and ashamed of his behavior. I want him to be afraid to show his fat ass in his Bedford golf club, because all of his former associates are snickering at him. If Michael Cohen’s testimony, under oath, before the Oversight Committee can contribute to those ends, then God bless him; let his lips speak every damaging truth against Trump, let the entire world hear, let Trump scream and tweet his denials, let no one believe those pathetic denials, let Melania be embarrassed by the sordid details, let even Chris Wallace and Shep Smith on Fox “News” be unable to defend the criminal. Let Sarah Huckabee Sanders quit her job in shame, let Kellyanne Conway go to work for Boeing so we never have to see her again, let Pence move to Africa to become a missionary. Let them all regret the awful thing they did when they went to work for a fiend. Let their descendants be ashamed to admit they sprang from such woeful miscreants. And, finally, if Cohen’s testimony against Trump is harmful enough (and I hope and expect it will be), then let the Courts reduce his (Cohen’s) sentence, possibly even suspend it, to reward him. And let Flynn, Manafort and the other co-conspirators realize that it’s in their best interest, and the best interests of America, for them to confess everything they did and knew, to make the Case Against Donald J. Trump airtight and convincing.
