The 2016 Eleanor is especially noteworthy as it blends Napa Valley and Sonoma County fruit in a lush and full-bodied format with excellent flavors, complexity and structure. Francis Coppola 2017 Chardonnay Director’s Cut Russian River Valley ($25) 92 Yellow gold in color, the 2017 Chardonnay Director’s Cut offers fresh aromas of orchard fruit with hints of fragrant tropical fruit on the palate. It exhibits the ripe flavors found in Russian River Valley fruit framed by light toasted oak. Aged 8 months in French oak, 35% new, it reveals good acidity and balance, a richly textured palate and a vibrant finish.
Francis Coppola 2017 Pinot Noir Director’s Cut Russian River Valley ($29) 90+ This 2017 Pinot Noir Director’s Cut exhibits ripe aromas and flavors of raspberry, red plum and dried cherry fruit. Aged 8.5 months in French oak, it is fresh and lively with big fruit flavors and hints of oak. It reveals its 14.5% alcohol with warmth on the back end of the palate and on the finish.
Francis Coppola 2016 Cinema Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley ($44) 92 A blend of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Dry Creek Zinfandel (34%), Syrah (18%), and Petite Sirah (8%), the 2016 Cinema offers ripe dark fruit flavors of blackberry, black cherry, herbs and minerals. With 16 months in French oak (25% new) it is rich and flavorful with excellent balance, soft round tannins and a long finish.
Francis Coppola 2016 Eleanor Red Wine Sonoma County and Napa Valley ($80) 93 Eleanor is a delicious blend of 49% Sonoma County Syrah, 38% Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged 20 months in French oak, it is full-bodied and concentrated and displays rich flavors of plum and black cherry with hints of tobacco and leather. On the palate it is lush and mouth filling with firm round tannins and a persistent finish.
